SELL WITH VERNEY AUCTIONS

Turn your unused items into your next opportunity

From a single piece of tack or farm equipment to tractors, machinery and a complete yard, farm, shop or business clearance, we make selling at auction straightforward. Send us a few photos to get started.

Selling with us is simple

1. Tell us what you have
Email photos and a few details about your items to info@verneyauctions.com. You do not need to write a perfect listing—we can help you decide what is suitable for auction.

2. Agree the details
We’ll discuss how to divide your items into lots, any suitable reserves, our commission and how the items will reach us. We’ll confirm the arrangements before entering them into a sale.

3. Drop off or arrange collection
Accepted items can be dropped off at our Church Broughton site by appointment. Free local collection is available for suitable accepted consignments expected to sell for £500 or more in total, within our indicative 20-mile collection area. Please contact us first so we can confirm the location, access and arrangements.

Indicative 20-mile straight-line collection area from Church Broughton.
Contact us to confirm whether collection is available for your items.

4. We sell your items
We photograph and catalogue the lots, advertise the auction and manage the bidding. After the sale and once the buyer has paid, we’ll send you a statement and arrange payment in accordance with the agreed seller terms.

To ask about entering items, email info@verneyauctions.com with the subject Equestrian Auction Entry or Farm Auction Entry. Please include:

  • Your name, telephone number and postcode.
  • Clear photographs of each item, including any damage.
  • What the item is, its brand, model, size, quantity and approximate age, if known.
  • Its condition, any faults or missing parts, and whether it works.
  • Your preferred reserve, if you have one.
  • Whether you would prefer to drop off the items or ask about collection.
  • Whether you are selling privately or through a VAT-registered business.

For trailers, horseboxes, quads and machinery, please also tell us about any relevant registration documents, serial numbers or paperwork. If you are unsure of a detail, send what you know and we’ll guide you.

Please wait for us to confirm that your items have been accepted and book a drop-off appointment before bringing them to the site.

Seller commission

Reduced commission for machinery & larger consignments

Selling tractors, larger machinery, high-value equipment or multiple items? Contact us for a tailored commission quote. Reduced rates are available for qualifying items and larger consignments, with all fees agreed before your items are entered.

Standard seller commission

Our standard seller commission is 10% of the hammer price—the final selling price—subject to a minimum of £5 per sold lot. An agreed reduced rate may apply to qualifying machinery, high-value items or larger consignments. There is no buyer’s premium.

For example, if a lot sells for £30, the standard commission is £5. If it sells for £100, the standard commission is £10. Any different rate or additional charge will be agreed with you before your items are entered.

Verney Auctions is not currently VAT registered, so we do not add VAT to our seller commission. VAT may apply to items sold on behalf of VAT-registered sellers; where applicable, this will be clearly stated in the lot details. Please let us know your VAT status when entering items.

What Happens After the Auction?

If an item does not sell: There is no seller commission to pay. We’ll contact you after the auction to arrange collection by appointment, normally within seven days, or discuss entering it in a future auction with your agreement.

If an item sells: We’ll send you a statement showing the sale price, seller commission and the amount due to you. Payment is by bank transfer within five working days after the buyer’s payment has cleared and the transaction is final, including any applicable cancellation period or dispute. We’ll let you know if payment is delayed.

Small items? Group them into a lot

If an individual item is unlikely to sell for much, you do not have to enter it on its own. Group similar items together to make a more appealing lot and get better value from the £5 minimum commission per sold lot.

For example, group grooming brushes into a grooming kit, sell matching rugs together, or bundle related hand tools and workshop accessories. Photograph the items together and tell us what is included. We can help you decide whether to sell them as one lot or separately.

Selling a large number of items?

If you are clearing a tack shop, livery yard, farm, workshop or business, please contact us before preparing individual lots. Tell us roughly what you have, where it is and your timescale. We can discuss collection, how best to group and advertise the items, and a tailored commission rate for a substantial consignment.

New to auctions? You’re welcome here.

You do not need auction experience to sell with us. We’ll explain the fees, lots, reserves and collection arrangements before you commit your items. Read our How Auctions Work guide or call us if you would rather talk it through.
